Our therapists create a safe, non-judgmental space where healing and meaningful change can happen at your pace. Therapy at Sonoran Sun Wellness is grounded in trauma-informed care and nervous system awareness — meaning we understand that emotional pain often lives in the body as much as the mind.

Therapy may be offered as a standalone service or coordinated directly with your psychiatric provider when you're also receiving medication management, TMS, Spravato, or ketamine therapy at our practice.

Therapy Approaches We Offer

EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is one of the most extensively researched therapies for trauma and PTSD. Through bilateral stimulation, it helps the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge — without requiring you to talk through every detail of what happened. Highly effective for PTSD, childhood trauma, adverse life events, and anxiety rooted in past experiences.

 

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT identifies the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors — and teaches you practical skills to interrupt unhelpful patterns. Effective for depression, generalized anxiety, social anxiety, OCD, and negative self-talk. Research-backed and skills-based.

 

DBT-Informed Therapy (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)

DBT-informed therapy builds skills in four core areas: emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness. Especially helpful for emotional intensity, mood instability, relationship challenges, and difficulty tolerating stress without becoming overwhelmed.

 

IFS-Informed Therapy (Internal Family Systems)

IFS views the mind as made up of different 'parts' — each with its own perspective, history, and protective role. This approach fosters self-compassion and helps clients build a kinder relationship with themselves, particularly when working through inner conflict, self-criticism, or complex trauma.

 

Somatic & Nervous System-Informed Therapy

Trauma and stress don't just affect the mind — they live in the body. Somatic therapy uses body-based awareness, grounding techniques, and mind-body integration strategies to support nervous system regulation and resilience. Particularly helpful when anxiety, trauma, or stress manifests physically (tension, chronic fatigue, dissociation, freeze states).

 

Art Therapy & Expressive Approaches

Art therapy uses creative processes — drawing, painting, collage, and other media — to access and process emotions that can be difficult to express in words. No artistic skill required. This approach supports trauma recovery, emotional processing, stress reduction, and self-exploration. Especially beneficial for children, adolescents, and adults who feel stuck in traditional talk therapy.
